The National 1798 Rebellion Centre

Visit our sister site – only a 10 minute walk from Enniscorthy Castle. Come face-to-face with the key figures of the Rebellion. Immerse yourself in the bloody Battle of Vinegar Hill. Discover the power of weapons from the period and learn, in gruesome detail, how some 20,000 insurgents faced the might of 10,000 well-trained and well-armed Crown Forces.

Vinegar Hill

The site of the bloodiest battle of the 1798 Rebellion, Vinegar Hill offers outstanding views of Enniscorthy town, the River Slaney, and the surrounding countryside, steeped in the history of the fallen rebels. Vinegar Hill has free car parking and easy walking paths to the ruined windmill at the top of the hill. Guided tours are offered for groups through Enniscorthy Castle or the National 1798 Rebellion Centre.

We offer tours for groups of 10 or more encompassing one, two or three of our heritage sites. Scheduled tours are available at Enniscorthy Castle and the National 1798 Rebellion Centre on weekends and bank holidays.
